It's the start of the new year and no doubt your bank account is looking rather empty after Christmas. Most people tend to spend more money on Christmas presents and food etc than they should do so today I'm going to share with you some quick ideas on how to make some extra cash.
Sites like Ebay or apps like Vinted are brilliant for selling old clothes (or in my case, clothes that don't fit me and I forget to return in time) that you don't want or have the room for anymore. It's a really simple process too. Obviously you can sell anything you want and you can either come up with a set price yourself, or you can allow people to bid on your items. It's so easy to do from your phone as well - just snap a decent but quick photo on your phone and then upload it.
2) Babysitting
Although it may not be the most glamorous/valuable job to put on your CV, babysitting is a great way to earn some money and all you have to do is put your feet up and relax once the kids are in bed. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, there's probably some parent/s in your neighbourhood who could really do with a night away from the kids. If knocking on doors isn't your kind of thing, you can just slide a nice note through people's doors introducing yourself and offering your services. Most parents aren't too picky as long as they get to know you first. I usually only make £5 per hour, but if you babysit the same child/children regularly, the parents are likely to pay you a little extra. Just the other week I babysat for my next door neighbours expecting £30 at most and instead received £50! Ngl, I think they might have been too drunk to tell that they slipped me an extra £20 (I did actually check the next morning by sending them a quick text but they insisted that I keep it all!) When I was 14, I did actually take a babysitting class which lasted a couple of weekends, but I honestly can't even remember most of it haha.
3) Car boot sales
Car boot sales are a perfect way to get rid of junk around the house that have gathered a huge pile of dust on them - old DVDs, clothes, jewellery, furniture etc. Anything. It may not make you hundreds of £££ but it's a great way to do some spring cleaning around the house as well as to earn some money. You can check out your nearest car boot sales on Facebook or simply search the web. I've done a couple of car boot sales and some things tend to sell more than others. For example, clothes can either be a hit or miss, but you know those old beauty collections (body spray, body wash, shower gel etc) that you get for Christmas from relatives you haven't seen in years and have no room for, well they go down really well. We've often sold these collections for £5 each, providing they've never been used/opened and are still in good condition. The most I've made at one car boot sale was just under £100 I think which is a pretty decent amount considering it's your old junk that you don't want anymore. A bit of advice though - car boot sales that start really early in the morning are freezing so make sure you're wrapped up and have a flask of your favourite warm drink with you.
4) Convert spare change into cash
I'm pretty sure everyone/every family has a spare change pot where they put 1ps and 2ps in and over time, this can add up. Simply sort out the 1ps from the 2ps into small, money bags and carry them over to the bank to be changed into notes. Or if you prefer, most supermarkets now have spare change converters that will do this for you but you may only be allowed to spend the money in store. Warning: if you're like me and haven't done this for 10 years, carrying all this change to the bank/supermarket will weigh a ton - take a friend with you or be prepared to make several trips.
5) Online Surveys
i dont think people trust me to look after their children otherwise i would babysit haha

honestly it's really easy - whenever I go round they are almost always in bed anyway :)
DeleteI'm trying to save like mad this year, such a useful post. I babysit whenever I can, however I try and advertise like mad but I haven't found it very regular which is tricky. I did surveys for a bit but literally made nothing which was annoying!

So am I. Great, I'm glad you find it useful! Oh that's annoying - I've never used surveys before but they do seem a bit hit and miss x
DeleteBabysitting is such a great option I always let people know I'm available, pretty easy money if I'm honest!

DeleteGreat tips! I was literally just thinking I really need to put a load of my clothes that I no longer wear in vinted and depop! It's just finding the time to clear them all out!
