Now that it's December, it's officially time to snuggle up on the sofa with a hot chocolate and get into the festive spirit by having a Christmas movie marathon. Below are some of favourite festive films that I love to watch each year.
1. Elf (2003)
I don't think I've ever come across a person who dislikes Elf before. It's hilarious. I spend the whole Christmas season quoting from it ("Son of a nutcracker!", "Buddy the elf, what's your favourite colour?" and "I just like to smile. Smiling's my favourite!" are just a few of my favourites. What quotes do you love?). The film is about Buddy, a human raised by elves after he sneaked into Santa's sack when he was a baby. The film follows his journey to New York as he tries to locate his Father. The only problem is, Buddy's Father is on the naughty list. This film is packed with everything festive in it and you'll love it whether you're 5 years old or 55 years old. I actually watch this multiple times a year because I love it so much (omg one time, I watched Elf in September...it was great!)
2. Love Actually (2003)
I watched this the other night after having not watched it for a couple of years and the obsession is real. This film makes me so giddy and happy. The film has multiple storylines with intermingling characters and explores love and relationships throughout the countdown to Christmas. I feel like everyone can relate to at least one character or storyline in this film (young love, forbidden love, relationship troubles etc) which is probably why this film is so successful. The cast is brilliant and hosts some really talented, famous actors. My favourites are Andrew Lincoln, Bill Nighy, Hugh Grant and Rowan Atkinson.
3. Dr Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
The above gif literally sums up what I ask myself on a daily basis. The film is about a bitter green Grinch who decides to ruin Christmas for Whoville, a town full of cheery and festive residents. However, this plan is halted when he eventually becomes friends with an endearing, little girl (baby Taylor Momsen) who aims to make sure that the Grinch is not alone at Christmas. This film is so sweet and Jim Carrey's acting is amazing as usual.
4. Arthur Christmas (2011)
My sister and I snuggled up in bed a couple of weeks ago and watched this together for the first time. We found ourselves laughing throughout the film at funny one liners from the likes of Grandsanta (Bill Nighy) and Bryony, (Ashley Jenson) an elf obsessed with wrapping presents. It takes Santa and everyone at the North Pole a large and well organised operation in order to deliver millions of presents around the world. But when one child is missed, Arthur (Santa's son) and Grandsanta take it upon themselves to deliver the present to the forgotten child and go on a journey they'll never forget.
What are your favourite Christmas films and why?
I have never watched any of these, but I have Arthur Christmas so I need to get around to watching it x
